Essiac And Your Pet
While we have heard comments from other sellers of Essiac, we have never really spent much time thinking about our pets.
Well, a few months ago we received a phone call from a customer that has been trying to give her dog Essiac. She told us that it is been difficult to get her dog to drink the Essiac as she has tried everything to coax her dog to drink the brew. She said at this point, just the smell of the product and her dog runs away.
She heard about the soft gels and asked us what kind of success we have had making this available to those with pets. Quite frankly, we had really not thought too much about this type of marketing and I really didn't have much advice to offer. She told me she would like to buy a bottle and give it to her dog. I asked how she planned on giving a couple of soft gels to a dog and to my surprise; she had already figured that out. She said she would take two soft gels and wrap them up in a piece of ham and it would be no problem for her dog to consume that instantly.
Yesterday we received a call from this same lady who is now buying her fourth bottle of Essiac for her dog. She told us her dog is doing so much better since starting on the Essiac. The dog has had some tumors and other ailments that have slowed him down and now they see him running around and playing like he did 10 years ago. The results of a recent large study tell us that eating fruit likely helps cut cancer risk. Researchers studied 299,649 women (from the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition study) to ascertain if fruit intake affects the rate of cervical cancer. An average nine-year follow-up found a significantly inverse association between daily increase in intake of fruits and invasive cervical cancer.
The researchers wrote in the September edition of the International Journal of Cancer, “Our study suggests a possible protective role of fruit intake and other dietary factors on invasive cervical cancer.”

I Wish I Had Known About Essiac...

Essiac and Arthritis

How can a soft gel equal two ounces of Essiac?
Our biggest challenge was how to convert this age old formula from brewing a tea into a 21st century method of simply taking a pill and obtain the same results.
As many of you may know, pharmaceutical contractors do this every single day and it is really quite a simple math formula to determine the conversion rate from liquid to solid. It goes something like this:
1 ounce of raw Essiac powder diluted into 32 ounces of water equals 28.349 grams of solid powder divided by 32 ounces of liquid water. This equals .886 milligrams of solid powder. This simply means if you took .886 milligrams of the Essiac powder, by itself, and injested it (hard to do without water) however if you managed to ge it down, it would be equal to one ounce of tea.
Now the challenge really begins because the milligram capacity of a soft gel (the amount of stuff you can fit inside the soft gel) is .583 mg. So, how do we fit .886 mg of Essiac powder inside a soft gel that only holds .583 mg?
The answer is extracts. Through testing and research we determined that we could use the powder form of 5 of the herbs needed for the 8 herb formula. We then take the remaining 3 herbs and convert them to an extract form, such as a 4-1 ratio to the powder. As you all know, an extract is simply a condensed form of a product, like frozen orange juice. When you add the water back to the frozen orange juice, it becomes whole again.
Mechanically the production works like this:

- Our herbs are orderded from our various suppliers of organic herb growers. The growers send us a sample from their on hand inventory for testing.
- Since we manufacture our product to FDA standards of cGMP regulations (compliant to good manufacturing practices) we are required to test every herb for microbiological limits, such as E. Coli, Salmonella and also for heavy metal limits such as lead, mercury, cadmium, et
- After receipt of the herb inventory needed for production, we are required by cGMP regulations to test the actual inventory a second time and record that. There is always the possibility that the original test samples could be different than the actual inventory shipped.
- Upon approval of the herbs they are then compounded. The compounding process is a series of mixing the 5 herbs and the 3 extracts to the exact formula and adding inactive ingredients such as deionized water, sunflower lecithin which becomes a loose paste and it is forced through various filters, each filtering system finer than the next. This process eventually creates a fine grit that can be mechanically forced through insertion tubes. The grit of this herb paste needs to be a fine as possible as to not pierce the skin of the soft gel, causing it to leak.
- The production process is fully automated and the soft gel machine begins to form the soft gels into a mold, which is heated. The actual soft gel is simply made of inactive ingredients such as Rice Bran Oil, Gelatin, Glycerin, Beeswax, which disloves in the stomach in about 12 to 20 minutes. As the machine fills the mold to create the soft gel, the insertion tube measures out the amount of paste needed to fill the soft gel and inserts it into a cavity of the soft gel.
- After the production, the soft gels are left on drying racks on top of absorbtion paper for up to a week. The paper absorbs any "leakers" and these are removed during the sorting process. While the soft gels are being dried, we are required once more to test the soft gels to be certain that during the manufacturing process, there was no contamination to the product.
- This soft gel, now becomes a 398 mg product once the filling and herbs are added and it is bottled ready for human consumption.

What is the miracle of Essiac?
Essiac 8 refers to the Eight Herbs that make up this herbal formula, also known as Eight Herb Essiac.
This original formula that was created by the Ojibwa Indians a few hundred years ago, was made up of 4 herbs. As this remedy became known in the United States in the early 1920's, efforts were made by the Nurse that was given this formula, to improve its effectiveness & potency.

Cancer and Essiac
Why do we keep hearing that Essiac is a cure for cancer?
Essiac really doesn't cure cancer. The human body is pre-programmed to be healthy and living in a perfect world without toxins and pollutants, without additives in our food, without pesticides on our fruits and vegetables, and plenty of exercise, we could all live to be 150 years old.

Why is 8 herb Essiac better than 4 herb Essiac?

The original four herb formula for Essiac consisted of Burdock Root, Slippery Elm bark, Rhubarb Root & Sheep Sorrel. These four herbs are the core to the Essiac formula, that was passed on from the Ojibwa Indians to Rene Caisse in the early 1920's.
In May of 1959 Rene Caisse arrived in Cambridge, MA to begin working with Dr. Charles Brusch (one of America's highest regarded doctor's, scientist and personal physician to President John F. Kennedy) to improve the functionability of the original four herb formula.
A potentiating herb means that it is more potent & increases the effectivness of other herbs in addition to adding healing potential of the whole synchronous effect of the entire formula. After eight years of testing and research, the additional four herbs that were added to the core four herbs were Watercress, Blessed Thistle, Red Clover and Kelp.
To paraphrase of some of what Rene Caisse had to say about this Indian brew "my treatment is non-toxic herbs.
